RIKEN has platforms that carry out cutting-edge research in various fields. TRIP (Transformative Research Innovation Platform of RIKEN platforms) is a challenging project aiming to create innovative research platforms that effectively generate new fields of knowledge across research areas by organically linking cutting-edge research platforms.

For example, in the life sciences, the United Nations has established a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as "Food security," "Protection and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems, and sustainable use of ecosystem services," and "Sustainable system for production and consumption." One of the problems in achieving these goals is the complexity of ecosystems. Ecosystems consist of complex interactions among plants, microbes, and soil, and it is a great challenge to analyze complex phenomena to predict and manage Earth's ecosystems.

TRIP enables the acquisition of a large amount of omics data in multiple layers, the development of algorithms that take full advantage of leading-edge artificial intelligence technology and mathematics, and the comprehensive identification of ecosystems’ causal networks by leveraging quantum-HPC hybrid computation.

In this way, we aim to promote the digital transformation of scientific research by linking "High-quality data acquisition," "AI and mathematical science," and "Expansion of computationally viable regions," leading to the prediction and management of the future. We will accelerate research that contributes to the creation of new value through the use of this "platform of platforms" that only RIKEN can provide.
